Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Delta Maps (“Delta Maps”, “we”, “us”) runs the Delta Maps website at deltamaps.app and the Delta Maps iPhone app. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Questions: support@deltamaps.app.
2. Information you give us
- Account: your email address, password, name, username, and optional profile picture, plus settings such as distance units. We store passwords only in hashed form. When you redeem an invitation code, we record which email used it.
- What you save: waypoints (name, notes, location, elevation), lines and areas, recorded tracks, photos, hunting journal entries (location, notes, date, and a weather snapshot), and the name and bounds of map areas you download. We keep a change history of your marks so you can see and restore earlier versions.
- Imports: GPX and KML files are read on your device. We keep the marks you import and the file name and counts, not the file.
- Photos: the photos you attach. If your camera saved location data inside a photo, that data may be stored with it.
- Support: the messages you send us, with your app version, platform, and an error reference if there is one.
- Beta waitlist: the email address you enter to request access.
3. Location
With your permission, the iPhone app uses your device’s precise location to show where you are, point you to your marks, get weather for where you stand, and rank nearby search results. The website uses your browser’s location only on your device, for example when you press the locate button.
Background location
The iPhone app uses location in the background only while you record a track or share your live location, and iOS shows its blue location indicator while it does.
- Track recording: points are saved on your phone. While the app is open, it regularly backs up the track in progress to your account (as often as every 20 seconds), and it saves the finished track when you stop.
- Live location sharing: while you share, your phone sends your latest position, accuracy, and heading about every 90 seconds or 25 meters. Each update replaces the previous one; we keep no history. See who can see it.
You can change location access at any time in iOS Settings. The map works without it, but recording and live sharing do not.
4. Information collected automatically
- Usage events: which screens and features you use, with your account ID, platform, app version, and a random ID for each app session. These events never include coordinates or the names of your marks.
- Error reports: the error message and technical details, and the names of the last few events before it.
- Battery and performance (iPhone): how fast the battery drains while the app runs, whether the phone is charging or in Low Power Mode, and which app features are active; plus the daily energy and performance summary iOS provides to app developers, which includes your iOS version and device model. No location is included.
- Property data use: a daily count of property-map requests per account, to stop bulk copying of owner information.
- Server logs: our hosting providers record requests, including IP address, time, and browser type, to run and secure the service.
The website sets no cookies. It uses your browser’s local storage to keep you signed in, remember your settings, hold a pending share link, and queue usage events until you sign in. Visitors who never sign in send us no usage events, though an error on the website can send an error report without an account. The iPhone app keeps your sign-in in the iOS Keychain and an offline copy of your data on your phone. Mapbox usage reporting is turned off in the iPhone app; on the website, the Mapbox map library may report basic map-load information to Mapbox.
We do not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because we do not track you across other websites.
5. How we use information
- To run Delta Maps: sync your data between devices, show it to you and to the people you share with, and provide weather, Scent Drift, elevation, and search.
- To answer your support requests and send password reset and account emails.
- To find and fix errors, and to reduce battery use.
- To keep the service secure and to prevent abuse, such as bulk copying of data.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles. Delta Maps staff access account data only to run and support the service.
7. Service providers
These companies and agencies process data for us to provide the service. We share only what each one needs.
| Provider | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in, file storage, live location updates, and server functions | Your account and everything you save in Delta Maps |
| Vercel | Hosting for the website and our map tile service | Web requests, including IP address, and a sign-in check for property tiles |
| Mapbox | Map display, offline map downloads, search, and place names | IP address, the map areas you view or download, search text with your approximate or precise location to rank nearby results, and coordinates we look up for place names |
| National Weather Service, OpenWeather, Open-Meteo | Weather forecasts | Coordinates, sent from our servers without your account details |
| Open-Meteo | Elevation of points, lines, and tracks | Coordinates and IP address, sent from your device |
| USDA and state imagery services | Aerial imagery | IP address and the map areas you view (some requests pass through our servers first) |
| Email delivery provider | Password reset and email change messages | Your email address |
| Google Fonts | Typefaces on the website | IP address when your browser loads a font |
When you ask for directions, the iPhone app opens Apple Maps and the website opens Google Maps with the destination; those apps handle it under their own policies. Apple distributes the iPhone app. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a merger or sale of Delta Maps, in which case this policy continues to apply.
8. Landowner information from public records
Delta Maps shows property lines, owner names, and property addresses from county property records to signed-in users, so hunters can see whose land is whose and ask permission. Mailing addresses are not shown. If a record is wrong, the county that publishes it can correct it at the source; you can also email us at support@deltamaps.app.
9. How long we keep information
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Account and profile | Until you delete your account. |
| Marks, tracks, photos, journal entries | Until you delete them or your account. A deleted mark disappears from your apps at once; we keep a hidden record of it so your other devices can sync the deletion, and it is removed when you delete your account. |
| Live location | Only your latest shared position is kept, and each update replaces the last. Others stop seeing it 15 minutes after the last update or as soon as you stop sharing. The last position stays stored until your next share replaces it or you delete your account. |
| Support requests | Until you delete your account. |
| Usage events and diagnostics | Until you delete your account. Error reports are kept after that without any link to you. |
| Weather cache | Forecasts are cached for areas about 3.5 miles across, with no link to your account. |
| Beta waitlist email | Until you ask us to remove it. |
| Invitation code records | The email address that redeemed an invitation code is kept after account deletion, so codes cannot be reused. |
10. Deleting your account
Delete your account in the iPhone app under Settings, Account, or on the website under Settings, Account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. It removes your account, profile, marks, tracks, photos and profile picture, journal, shares, live location, support requests, and usage events.
We keep only what the retention table above says survives deletion: error reports with no link to you, the record that your email redeemed an invitation code, and records of administrative actions. The offline copy on your phone is removed when you delete the app.
11. Your choices and rights
- See and correct your account details and content in the app at any time.
- Export your waypoints and tracks as a GPX file.
- Stop a share or revoke a link at any time.
- Turn off location access in iOS Settings.
- Delete your account from the app.
To ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion, email support@deltamaps.app. We answer within 45 days and do not treat you differently for asking. Some states, such as Virginia and California, give residents these rights by law; we honor them for every user.
12. Children
Delta Maps is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email support@deltamaps.app and we will delete it.
13. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. Database rules keep each person’s data separate from everyone else’s, passwords are stored only in hashed form, and the iPhone app keeps your sign-in in the iOS Keychain. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.
14. Where we process information
Delta Maps is built for hunters in the United States. We and our service providers process information in the United States and may process it in other countries where those providers operate.
15. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change. When a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The effective date at the top shows the current version.
